Monday Mini Reviews: 4/15

It’s been a while since I did any of these, but this post has been sitting in my drafts for more than a month, so it’s About Time, don’t you think?

The Dead – Cal Matthews

I picked this up on Kindle Unlimited and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s got zombies, vampires, inexplicable magic and an old grudge in a teeny tiny midwestern town.

I didn’t really love the romance at the center of this story, but otherwise I really liked it. Matthews did a great job keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Snowspelled – Stephanie Burgis

I read a short story in this universe in The Underwater Ballroom Society anthology and loved it, so I grabbed Snowspelled the next time it went on sale! I was not disappointed and I’m looking forward to the next novel in the series, which is already out and waiting on my kindle!

I particularly can’t wait for the larger roles of several queer side characters, and to see all these ladies take over the world.

Carmilla – Kim Turrisi

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I hadn’t already watched the series. This basically retells the first season of Carmilla without adding anything to it, which was a little disappointing for me. I think it will be for fans of the series as well. I also don’t remember LaFontaine being misgendered quite so often in the show as they were in this novel version, which bothered me a lot.
