Hey, friends! Today I’m reviewing three books that I listened to as audiobooks over the last few weeks. Audiobooks have been one of the main ways that I read books for fun nowadays, because I mostly listen while I drive or work on other things. But these books were great enough to deserve a mini review!

Without any further ado, the books!

Dread Nation – Justina Ireland

I was thrilled when Dread Nation appeared as an audiobook on Hoopla through my library. I’d been hoping my library would purchase a copy so I could read it. I loved this alternate history as much as I thought I would. Jane was an awesome, no-nonsense protagonist. This would have been a heart eyes emoji book except for the issues in Native American rep which Debbie Reese pointed out here. I look forward to the sequel! You can pick up a copy on Amazon or Indiebound.

River of Teeth – Sarah Gailey

River of Teeth has been on my TBR since it was originally announced. I love alternate histories, and I especially love them when they’re queer as fuck – which this was. This caper of a novella was thoroughly enjoyable for me. I wish it was a little bit happier, but such is the way of these thing. I’ll definitely be listening to the next book! You can pick up a copy on Amazon or Indiebound.

Space Opera – Catherynne M. Valente

This is another book that has been on my list for a long time, and I’m glad to be able to give it a mini review. I’d never read any of Valente’s work before, but I loved this ridiculous cover and the blurb. Space Opera did not disappoint me. It’s very tongue-in-cheek and reminded me of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. There were a few lines that I think would be upsetting to aromantic readers, but it was overall a pretty good book. I’ll definitely be looking to see if I can find any of Valente’s other books at my library.

You can pick up a copy on Amazon or Indiebound. I highly recommend the audiobook!
